I always thought that tableware was there (OR ready) to use as we like.  We didn't have to be particular about its arrangement on the table (可以再加上: or about how and when to use it.)  Now I have come to know that setting tableware is something (that is) quite worth learning.

I’d always thought dishes and forks were just there for you to use, nothing to them, but now I realize there is actually an art to setting tables.

想說什麼東西是一門學問﹐英文的講法是there is an art to (doing something) 或 (something-doing) is an art﹐例﹕

There is an art to planting roses.

    Rose-planting is an art.

There's an art to hosting parties.

    Party-hosting is an art.

There is an art to setting tables.

    Table-setting is an art.

I often thought tablewares are just used as taken, dosen't require much thoughts on how to place them on the table. But now I understand the proper way of placing them can be a form of decoration and a fascinating skill.
