The IEEE 802.11 committee developed the 802.11 Wireless LAN standards to cover wireless networks for fixed, portable, and moving stations within a local area .
This standard addresses the need for wireless connectivity to stations, equipment, or automatic machinery that requires rapid deployment and may be portable, handheld, or mounted on moving vehicles. IEEE accepted the specification in 1997. There are several specifications in the 802.11 family: 802.lla, 802.llb and 802.11g

In this thesis, the concepts of IPv6, 802.11 WLAN, and IP Mobility are introduced in turn. This thesis provides a detailed look at Mobile IPv6 solution and its implementation. This thesis is constructed as follows.

Chapter 1 introduces the present situation of Wireless Network and Mobile IPv6. It also describes the background and motivation of this thesis. Chapter 2 provides an introduction to the main technologies of 802.11 Wireless LAN. The concepts of IEEE 802.11 related standards such as 802.11 a, 802.11 b, and 802.11 g are introduced. Chapter 3 introduces Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) and describes the difference between IPv4and IPv6. Chapter 3 also provides the detail view of Mobile IPv6 mechanism. Chapter 4 describes the test environment of this thesis. Chapter 5 shows the analysis result of Mobile IPv6. Chapter 6 summarizes the result of this thesis and also indicates the further work and further research topics.

Mobile IPv6 was designed to be a natural outgrowth of Mobile IPv4, just as IPv6 itself was designed to be a natural outgrowth of IPv4.
