Power distance is the extent that people accept unequal distribution of power in a society.

Those with high power distance accept and value unequal power, whereas those with low power distance expect relatively equal power sharing.

In high power distance cultures, employees are comfortable receiving commands from their superiors, and resolving conflicts through formal rules and authority.

In contrast, people in low power distance cultures prefer being involved in decisions and resolving conflicts more through personal networks and coalitions.

    首先,引進一個概念:Power Distance,已經成爲一個固有的概念,中文大多翻成權力距離,或是權力差距。High Power Distance 是指高度權力差距,他的術語是 “高權距值”。Low Power Distance 則是低度權力差距,術語是 “低權距值”。Power distance is the extent that people accept unequal distribution of power in a society. 權力差距是指人們在社會中接受不均等權力分配的程度。extent 是程度、範圍的意思。Those with high power distance accept and value unequal power, whereas those with low power distance expect relatively equal power sharing. 具有高權距值的社會接受並且尊重不均等權利,反之,低權距值的社會則要求相對的平權共享。value 做動詞用時是評估、或是尊重、重視的意思。In high power distance cultures, employees are comfortable receiving commands from their superiors, and resolving conflicts through formal rules and authority. 在高權距值的文化中,雇員習慣于欣然接受(他們的)上級的命令,並能通過正規的條例和權責來解決矛盾衝突。In contrast, people in low power distance cultures prefer being involved in decisions and resolving conflicts more through personal networks and coalitions. 相反的,低權距值文化中的人們更喜歡通過個人的關係和人脈,把自己捲進對於矛盾衝突的決策和解決中(或 由自己來充當矛盾衝突的決策者和解決者。)involve 是牽涉、捲入的意思。networks 和 coalition 在這裡是同義詞,前者是指關係網,後者是指聯盟、聯合。
