If you study libral arts (English, History, Foreign Languages, Sociology, Phiosophy, Economics...etc), you will get a BA=Bachelor of Arts.
If your major is science, engineering, education or buisness, you will graduate with a BS=Bachelor of Science.
However, it sometimes depends on the department or the courses you have taken, for example, you can get either a BA or BS in Communication, Chemistry, Education, or other fields.
On the other hand, if you are getting a master's degree, it can be:
MA=Master of Arts (English, History, Languages, ...etc)
MS=Master of Science (Engineering, Math, Biology...etc)
MBA=Master of Business Administration
MFA=Master of Fine Arts (For example, if you study Photography, Creative Writing, Cinema, Painting..etc)
MM=Master of Music
MAcc=Master of Accountancy
MEd=Master of Education
MSW=Master of Social Work
PhD=Doctor of Philosopy (You can get a PhD in any field)
EdD=Doctor of Education (only in education)

at Yale, molecular cell developmental biology can be either BA (if you wrote a research paper) or BS (if you did research and wrote a thesis).
BS and BA really doesn't make that much of a difference, they are all bachelor level degrees.

actually, it all depends on what programs your school offers
e.g. Econ actually can be both BA and BS, with slightly different courses and such
some schools also offers BE degree (Bachelor of Engineering)
so just ask your school
