that the discrepancy in quadricps-to- hamstring ratios occurs in the perimenarchal period or shortly after onset of menarche . This information may be useful in determining the proper timing for implementing risk reduction programs .
Althought conventional isokinetic strength assessment may provide more information
on muscle strength properties , its use is less practical and incurs excessive cost with
large cross-sectional cohort studies . We assessed maximum isometric strength using a handheld dynamometer . Unlike the onset of menstruation in the female , there is no
distinct physiologic marker heralding the beginning of the end of longitudinal skeletal
growth and development in the adolescent male . The use of Tanner staging may have
been a more accurate way to stratify the prepubescent (Tanner stages 1 and 2 ) from the prepubescent (Tanner stages 3 ) from the postpubescent

In conclusion , girls after menarche increace their quadricps strength greater than their
hamstring strength , which may put them at risk for ACL injury . These results suggest
that ACL injury-prevention programs based on improving dynamic control of the knee
by emphasizing hamstring strengthening should be instituted for girls after menarche .
