The solid-state transformations upon heating of cis-[Ir-(CO)2Cl(C5H5N)] have been studied by combining complementary techniques which allowed some light to be shed on a complex solid-state process. If the compound is immediately and properly cooled, a partial recrystallization takes place, accompanied by significant microstructural changes.
