Customer satisfaction is an affective reaction to the

appraisal of a supplier . We

propose that customer value perceptions contain particularly

salient and diagnostic information that buyers utilize

when apprising a supplier. Additionally, over time, as

buyers refine this appraisal, customer value will continue

to influence satisfaction and may even become more

influential as other less diagnostic information is devalued.

Both the investment model and social exchange theory

indicate that outcome values of the current relationship positively affect

satisfaction with the relationship. Applying these theories,

customers who receive high value from a supplier should

be more satisfied than those who receive low value. Thus,

customer value is hypothesized to have a positive relationship

with customer satisfaction and this relationship is

likely to become stronger over time.
