Other creative characteristics described by teachers in our study may be related to a reluctance to assume responsibility. Rich vocabularies, enthusiasm about learning and high IQ are all indicators of high academic achievers and gifted and talented students. Many gifted and talented students also pos- sess creative abilities. Perhaps, the instruction of creative stu-dents is perceived as the responsibility of the G/T facilitator. This notion of “whose jurisdiction”is a topic for future research.

One last point for consideration addresses the adequacy of the regular classroom teacher to recognize and identify cre-ative students, and/or to teacher in ways designed to promote creativity in all students. Pre-service traning programs do little to broaden knowledge of the phenomenon of creativity. Commercial programs designed to promote creative thinking and problem solving are not part of most pre-service educa-tion programs and are most often acquired through profes-sional development programs.
