Assimilation
PHONOLOGY/PHONETICS: a process in which one or more segments become adapted in one or more aspects to a neighbouring segment.
舉例一: partial assimilation—nasalization(鼻音化現象)
定義: a process, i.e. assimilation of place of articulation, in which the place of obstruction shifts towards the hard palate.
日文: ta / ti / tu / te / to --> ta / chi / tsu / te / to
in-: consistent / in-consistent
ir- : regular / ir-regular
il- : legal / il-legal
Coarticulation
Coarticulation in phonetics refers to two different phenomena:
i) the assimilation of the place of articulation of one speech sound to that of an adjacent speech sound. For example, while the sound /n/ of English normally has an alveolar place of articulation, in the word tenth it is pronounced with a dental place of articulation because the following sound, /θ/, is dental.
ii) the production of a coarticulated consonant, that is, a consonant with two simultaneous places of articulation. An example of such a sound is the voiceless labial-velar plosive /k͡p/ found in many West African languages.
Coarticulation
