    兩個用法是一樣的,

只是:The trial of the First Lady on charges stemming from the alleged misuse of state funds is set to resume later today at the Taipei District Court.

    這裡的stemming from是用現在分詞當形容詞,去修飾 charges(指控),意思是「源自不當使用國務機要費的指控」

Two recent deaths (of women who had taken an abortion pill to terminate pregnancies) stemmed from a bacterial infection, not from the pill itself

這裡的stemmed from 是動詞過去式,主詞是 Two recent death,意思是「最近兩起因細菌感染的死亡」,上面括號底線的部份,who had taken an abortion pill to terminate pregnancies是修飾前面的women,意指「吞服墮胎丸以中止懷孕的婦女」,而of women也是用來修飾deaths

    to 小嘟嘟:

    這個句子省略了一個關係代名詞,原句應為:

The trial of the First Lady on charges (which is)stemming from the alleged misuse of state funds is set to resume later today at the Taipei District Court.

    若意思為避免或阻止事態更加嚴重時不需from. Ing form是沒問題的.

若意思是as a result of是沒有ing form的.只有stemmed from. 查過牛津字典也表示在as a result of的情況下,不能使用progressive tenses. ICRT兩則例子應該都是as a result of.
