This motivation appeared to prevail in 20% of all talking events.

Here the prevailing attitude is the need and intent to help, to share with the other person enthusiasm in, and benefits of, things enjoyed. Products serve mainly as instruments which help to express sentiments of neighborliness, care, friendship, and love.

This case example was chosen to illustrate the way in which an "other-involved" person accepts and respects the reasons for the rejection of her recommendation, however strongly she may feel about the product as such:

I was telling my mother about Ivory Liquid and how much I liked it. She said she would try it, but just couldn't because she has an allergy condition with her hands and finds it impossible to use any kind of detergent.
