Why do we consider fast food, soft drinks and snacks junk food (those that provide large amounts of calories, but with fewer nutrients)? These foods fall in the categories of high fat, high salt, high calories but low fiber. Not only do they have less nutritious value, they contain massive amounts of artificial ingredients. Foods like French fries and fried chicken are usually too greasy or salty with very few vegetables and fruits on the side. Problems with drinks such as coke or soda are that they are too sweet. If we consume these food too often, not only will we be undernourished but it will be very easy for us to be obese and get cavities. Our chances for having high blood pressure, heart attack and other types of chronic diseases will flourish as a result of our poor diet.
According to the idea of a balanced diet, everyone should consume different varieties of food; that is a truly healthful eating habit.
