    Pro:

    Fast: Imagine Jordon, and Kobe to Nike. LeBrone, too. It's a quick way to link their image to the products. They are famous and known to everybody.

    Effective: People link their image to what they use.

    Availability: Availability is not a problem. You can find any movie stars if you have enough money.

    Con:

    Costly: All or nothing. You want to hire a star rather than somebody who is cheaper. Stars are usually very expensive, but they are effective. Somebody cheaper might not have any influence at all. It's not one to one relationship.

    High risk: Unlike other promotion approaches that you have full control over, people is always unpredicable. Especially high profile phenomenon/stars don't necessarily act on contracts and they are often under magnified examination.

    Termination of contract: After the contract expires, what can your company do to ensure the person once you partner with will not tarnish her/his reputation and hurt your image?

    (2) According to Expectancy theory, to you have to carefully work on:

    Valence: convince them the reward is not trivial

    Eexpectancy: make them believe their effort will lead to performance

    Instrumentality: Ensure them their performance will be rewarded.

    M = V * E * I

    In order to enhance the performance-outcome tie managers should use systems that tie rewards very closely to performance.

    -----> A fair and accurate evaluation system for performance.

    In order to improve the effort-performance tie, managers should engage in training to improve their capabilities and improve their belief that added effort will in fact lead to better performance.

    ------> Good training and leadership of their supervisor.

    To make them believe in valence, the reward based on the result of the evaluatoin should be significant and important to the employees.

    -------> Vacation, money, title, self-esteem, empowerment, praise, etc... and punishment, too. Whatever they deem important to them.

    我的答案就是

    A fair and accurate evaluation system for performance

    Good training and leadership of their supervisor.

    Giving the reward they want: vacation, money, ...

    Now everybody responses to money, so you have got to give them what they really want. Some people just need verbal praises or a pat on the back!!

    除最上面的實質獎勵因素外

    另一方面可以

    (我簡單講了. 不然太多)

    sv: 讓工作有挑戰性

    ts: 讓員工有成就感

    ti: 讓員工覺得自己重要

    At: 給員工自主權

    Fb: 時常給回應 (做的好或壞,大方向)

    作到這幾點, 不用加薪

    有上進心的員工也會留下來

    External motivation 靠外來因素的激勵

    Intrinsic motivation 內在因素(工作本身)的激勵

    外來因素就是給他們要的獎勵...錢,升官, ...來留住他們

    內在因素的激勵就是讓工作(有趣, 心理因素等)來留住他們
