semicolon (;) is used to connect two independent clauses

把兩個可以自己獨立的句子(independent clause)連起來用的

例句

I like cake; she also likes cake.

如何知道是 independent clause? 把兩部分分開為兩個句子, 文法上沒錯的話就沒問題

I like cake.

She also likes cake.

像 I like cake; but she doesn't. 這樣是錯誤的 (要用 comma)

I like cake. << 可以自己當一個獨立的句子

But she doesn't. << 不可以自己當一個句子 (dependent clause) 因為讀者會想 "she doesn't what?"

colon: (:) is used to list things, give a definition, or seperation of title and sub-title

如果有個清單, 想要給字義, 或者是分開標題與副標題
