May Fourth movement
In 1911, Dr. Sum Yat-sen overthrew the Qing dynasty and established the Republic of China. This revolution made thousand of years of the powerful imperialism to the end and took China to the new era that the people had the political power. However, the Republic of China could not look at the situation that China was a fragmented nation and controlled under the warlords who had their own political powers and own private armies and more political power than the Beiyang government. When the Beiyang government had met the foreign problems, the government could not raise their hands to get their ideas.
This movement began on May 4th, 1919 in Beijing so that the movement was called the May Fourth movement. There were over three thousand students of Peking University who stood in front of Tiananmen and held the exposition on May 4th. This movement was against the traditional Chinese cultural moral such as Confucianism. Teng describes that the May Fourth movement and coming out of the New Culture Movement were “anti-imperialist and anti-feudal” in nature (Li 146). Also, the conference of this movement wanted to say their anger and sad about the Beiyang government who could not protect the Chinese benefits. The Beiyang government wanted to stop this conference so that the government arrested many students. However, one student was died in this event. This movement was based on the college students and workers, craftsmen, businessman, and the other Chinese individuals. Also, the May Fourth movement influenced the change of the Chinese society that made the rise of the Communist Party.

However, the Beiyang government could not take good care of the situation in which China was divided and controlled by different warlords who had their own political influences and armed forces that are even more powerful than the government. Therefore, when the governance of Beiyang government was challenged by foreign invasions, the situation went out of control. The Beiyang government wanted to stop the conference so they arrested many students, resulting in the death of a student in the event. The supporters of this movement include the college students，laborers, craftsmen, businessmen, and many other Chinese individuals.
