    (1) Mediocre (adj.)

    = of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate, about average. 平凡的, 普通的, 中等的

    = rather poor or inferior, 二流的

    Used to describe quality and performance.

    用來詮釋品質,表現的程度

    A mediocre quality. 品質二流

    A mediocre performance. 表現平凡

    His performance is mediocre.

    The quality of the job is only mediocre.

    For example:

    They improved the quality from mediocre to above average. = They improved the quality from average (neither good nor bad) to above average.

    (2) Intermediate (adj.)

    = being, situated, or acting between two points, stages, things, persons, etc.: the intermediate steps in a procedure, 中間的

    = of or pertaining to an intermediate school. 中級的

    Used to describe level of proficiency, level of class.

    mediocre 通常有貶意

    - The basketball star gave a mediocre performance 籃球巨星這場表現平平

    intermediate 常用在實際分高中低級,如:For swimming lessons, students are put in groups of advanced, intermeidate and beginner.

    The student is merely mediocre 感覺較適合。merely 也有批判意。若用intermediate 應該要有精確的主題,如English level, swimming skill等才適用。
