台東地區中途輟學(Drop-out)比例自2005年開始呈現正成長趨勢,學生在義務教育的學齡階段失學,極有引發出後續的社會問題。

然而造成國中學生輟學原因許多,以台東而言,是個人因素最為普遍。學生在青少年階段對於學業好逸惡勞,學習低成就,加上流連網咖的效應,學生只知道玩樂,不知讀書充實自己。正在學習中的學生看到校外有一群與自己年紀相仿的人不用讀書,且逍遙自在,中輟問題便開始蔓延。

中輟問題的解決,有賴於個人、學校、家庭與社會環境的改善,且通力合作,方能防制中輟問題的產生,進而解決中輟學生所衍伸的不良問題。
