    seat & sit

He is seated between Jack and Tom.

Please be seated. (=Please seat yourself.)

    (2) sit

The students are sitting at their desks.

    Sit down, please.

    2. seat還可作名詞用(而sit只能作動詞用),常見短語take a seat (相當於have a seat或take one’s seat) ,意為“坐下,就座”。 如:

    Take your seat, please.

    1. Hu Peng seats beside me in class.

    2. The baby is seating on her mother’s knees.

    3. Please take a sit, the manager will soon be here.

    4. “Please seat you,” the teacher said.

    5. I found him seating there.

    Key:

    1. seats→sits 2. seating→seated / sitting 3. sit→seat

    4. you→yourself / yourselves 5. seating→sitting / seated
