I just read this debate on the BBC News site.
What do you think?
"People should consider eating less meat as a way of fighting globalwarming, says UN's top climate scientist. Will you reduce your meatintake?
Rajendra Pachauri, who chairs the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), will urge the move at a speech on Monday.
He says the production of meat contributes more to the world's greenhouse gas emissions than transport.
But a spokeswoman for the UK's National Farmers' Union (NFU) said methane emissions from farms were declining.
How much meat do you eat? Would you consider reducing your meat intaketo help the environment? What other individual measures can help tocombat climate change? "
I personally am a big believer in doing what we can to help theenvironment. I don't drive if it isn't absolutely necessary, I recycleas much as my council permits (surprisingly not that much!), use energyefficent lightbulbs, etc.....
But, I think not eating meat to reduce the methane emmisions is takingit a little too far. I for one enjoy eating meat, it's part of my dietand frankly I wouldn't get what my body needs from it without it.
Eating meat is part of our lifestyle that has been around for thousandsof years (I'm not against vegans by the way, am animal rights as wellbut see meat as a necessity unfortunately).
Whereas using cars, leaving TV's on standby not recylcing etc issomething we can do to reduce the affect we have. It's not a lifealtering thing to put our plastics in a different bin or things likethis but we do need to eat.
What do you think? Am curious to see how people feel towards this.
the answers on the debate where quite varied, some felt that we shouldreduce emmisions at whatever cost. Others thought that this is simplysilly and others felt that we can do as much as we can do, but thisaction may not be benefical.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Also, what would happen to all these animals if we weren't to eat them?
Do you think it fair to greatly reduce the amount of species on a planet because we don't have the taste for them anymore?
