美國的學制一般分：
Preschool (又有人叫Pre-K, 就是pre-kindergarten的意思):大班以前念的。
Elementary school: Kindergarten-5年級。就是小學 。
Middle school:6-8年級
High school:9~12年級
preschool 的意思：美國的小學一般從大班開始念，和台灣從一年級開始不一樣。所以如果是大班以前的學校就叫做Pre-school，意思就是類似"念正式學校之前的學校"。如果要翻成中文，應該翻成"幼兒園"。
kindergarten就是小朋友去學校念書的第一年，就是台灣的大班的年紀念的。
對照台灣的：
小小班+小班+中班 = preschool
大班= kindergarten

Kindergarten is a school, so pre-school pupils are younger than kindergarten pupils.
In the United States, parents can send their kids to pre-school at any ages as long as they know how to go to bathroom (pee, and poop) all by themselves (around 3 years old). Pre-school basically is the same as "day-care". But for kindergarten, the pupils need to be 5, or 6 years old.

是阿 kindergarten 通常是一年 但是我讀ㄌ二年! 大慨是英文差被認為是笨吧! 我ㄉ K to 12 是 K 一年 小學6 中學 二 高中四 (1,6,2,4). 其他有很多是 1,5,3,4. My district 所有ㄉ K 到 六都是 同一校

還有 preschool, in my district, 所有ㄉ P 都不是公費ㄉ! 比較有錢ㄉ 和比較沒有時間ㄉ 才會去上學!
