The postural adjustments necessary to roll and come to a seated position to engage in self-care tasks can be learned only in the context of task performance and in the expected environment .

The treatment of a patient with hemiplegia often occurs on a continuum that directly influences the physical treatment environment . Many treatment environments impose constraints that limit the therapist&rsquo;s interventions . Ideally the relearning of motor skills and tasks should occur in the actual environment in which the tasks will be performed .
