Classes ______ 17:30 with a one-hour break allowed at 12:30 for lunch. Physical exercise is scheduled immediately after calsses at 17:30 and dinner is at 19:30 sharp.

Classes stop at 17:30.

    Classes continue until 17:30 with a one-hour break allowed

    at 12:30 for lunch.

    Classes stop not until 17:30 with a one-hour break allowed

    at 12:30 for lunch.

    Classes stop until 17:30 =

    Classes continue until 17:30 =

    => This means: "After-hours" swing and Lindy Hop Dance lesson starts at 11"30 pm and ends at 2AM.

    Anywhere between 11pm and 1am, I start to hear the sound ..... It lasts for about three hours and then stops until 7am when it starts up again.

    => This means: The sound lasts from 11pm to 2am, or from 1am to 4pm, and then the sound stops. The sound starts again at 7am.

    So, now you probably get the point

    continue until => 持續到 ... 終止

    stop until => 停止到 ...開始

    白兒's answer is wrong. I started learning English at 11 years old abroad with over 32 years of experience speaking and writing English. I have been a project manager in the US since 1992.

    continue until => 持續到 ... 終止 is correct English usage by the native speakers, not 中文語法 at all.

    If you say "continue after" or "stop after", then that is a different story.

    The class continues after the break. => This means the class will start when the break is over.

    The class stops after the break. => This means the class will stop when the break is over.

    2009-09-18 04:46:30 補充:

    So, for your question,

    Classes continue until 17:30 with a one-hour break allowed at 12:30 for lunch.

    => This means the classes ends at 17:30pm, and there is a break at 12:30pm.

    => Correct.

    2009-09-18 04:49:02 補充:

    Classes stop until 17:30 with a one-hour break allowed at 12:30 for lunch.

    => This means the classes starts at 17:30pm, and there is a break at 12:30pm.

    => Illogical. As the class hasn't started yet, why would there be a break before the class starts?
