How to say”應酬, 敷衍” in English?

Hi,

Does someone know How to say"應酬, 敷衍" in English?

In addition, the answer to the below quesiton is (B)before, why not (A)ago?

Question: She said that she had been to Taiwan ten years before?

Thanks.

to patronize or brush off someone is to say something insincere just to get him/her off your back.

ago refers to a time in the past from now, whereas before is from a point in time that needs to be specified.

    For example,

I am 30 years old, I was 25 five years ago, and 22 three years before.

If this is a standalone sentence and not a part of a dialogue, then it is incorrect.

    Good Luck!

    It's a compliment!

    one year ago
