How to say”應酬, 敷衍” in English?


Does someone know How to say"應酬, 敷衍" in English?

In addition, the answer to the below quesiton is (B)before, why not (A)ago?

Question: She said that she had been to Taiwan ten years before?

    to patronize or brush off someone is to say something insincere just to get him/her off your back.

    ago refers to a time in the past from now, whereas before is from a point in time that needs to be specified.

    For example,

    I am 30 years old, I was 25 five years ago, and 22 three years before.

    If this is a standalone sentence and not a part of a dialogue, then it is incorrect.

    敷衍 palter 不過如果只是禮貌性應酬話 會說

    It's a compliment! 只是具應酬話

    關於文法 : 那句話應該是before 因為before 直接就是以前 而ago在....以前

    compliment指的是別人的話 沒人會說自己說的 只是應酬話吧?
