academic writing structure

academic writing: structure and principles

Academic writing is often described as complex and abstract. This is partly due to the subject matter of the writing; however, it is also due to the language itself. Three characteristics that can create complexity in academic writing are the frequent use of the passive voice, nominalisation and extended nominal (or noun) groups. Learning to use these structures in your own writing is an important part of becoming a sophisticated writer at university. The following section will discuss the passive voice, nominalisation and extended nominal groups and will focus on teaching you how to incorporate these academic structures into your own writing.

    - frequent use of the passive voice

    - nominalisation

    - extended nominal (or noun) groups

Academic writing is often complex and abstract.

    - relevance to the question

    - sound ordering and structuring of material

    - quality of clarity of written presentation

    - effective use of evidence

    - demonstration of sound understanding of the topic

    - quality of research

    - quality of analysis

    - identification of major themes and arguments

    - critical evaluation and judgement

    - range of sources used

    - insight and orginality

frequent use of the passive voice 意思就是說你不要用"I".

    這就是an academic writing structure
