resistance, hypertension, and hypertriacylglycerolaemia (Gerrits

and Tsalikian, 1993). Animal studies have shown that highfructose

diet-fed rats display hepatic oxidative damage and altered

lipid metabolism due to hepatic stress as a result of the burden of

fructose metabolism (Kelley et al., 2004).
