Sixty-fivemillion years ago at the end of CretaceousAge, a meteorite fell on the Yucatan Peninsula in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico region. Theenergy it released was equivalent to 5 billion times of the bomb that destroyed Hiroshima. In the incendiaryair blast, the shock wave it radiated and the shrouds of dust it dischargedkilled instantly all life forms within hundreds of miles. Clouds of debris and plumes of volcanic gas from the fireballs girdled the earth, blocked the sunlight, and darkened the sky. Temperature took a nose dive. Asdarkness reigned, photosynthesis came to a stop. Changes in climate dramatically transformedthe eco-system. Plants withered in the absence of sun light and plant-eatinganimals either froze to death or slowly died of starvation. The aftermath was that death found its wayall the way up the food-chain to wipe out one fourth of the species. That refers to the era when dinosaursperished in trauma, one drove afteranother until they were totally vanished from the surface of the earth. Today, satellite images still reveal a huge depression below the Mexicancoastlines.
