How come the government isn't selling the F-35 to Taiwan?
I saw on the news that we are not selling F16 or F35 to Taiwan; isn't Taiwan one of our friend in Asia like Japan and Philippine? How come we sell F-35 to Canada, a place where they pride themselves on being peaceful, than to Taiwan, a place where the possibility of war is so much greater?

Taiwan got F16A/B. Now U.S. government is going to upgrade those A/B to C/D/ The problems are in Taiwan pilots who have difficulties even on F5 fighters. They can never drive F35. Also, there is a trust issue. Since the breaking off between Red China and Taiwan, rumors said that the Red China adopt Russian technologies while Taiwan is adopting U.S. technology. The breaking off was merely a political show. That can explained that the technology which U.S. sold to Taiwan normally exhibited in China and vice verse.
Also there are many political issues forcing U.S. not selling any further advanced weapons to Taiwan. This times, U.S. should sell the upgrade to Taiwan and other advanced monitoring techniques to China to settle down any political turmoil.

Continental China would object. Though the international community acknowledges Taiwan's sovereignty, China doesn't and claims Taiwan as its own territory. To sell heavy war equipment to Taiwan would spark a row with China.
