The bright and shining sun forces the clouds to disappear in the sky.The weather was crisp as I admire the snow covered ground.The snow lights up the forest with the sun beaming down upon it. The world seems new as the air smells clean and clear. The trees struggle to show their green pine needles through the soft blanket of snow attached at every limb.
Time seems to not exist anymore during the winter in the mountains. Everything is peaceful, as if the world around forgot to wake up. Not even a rabbit or a deer in sight senses the cold winter settled in. The birds still sing, but not quite as beautiful as in the springtime. The river inches along, not wanting to rush down the mountains like it has during the warm summer days. The bright sun feels warm on my face as it breaks through the trees. The tightly packed snow crunches under my feet. Not a footprint within sight so the world seems brand new to me, as though I was the first person to ever step upon it.
The rocks rest in the same spot as before, just now with little puddles of water filling the chips and crevasses along their faces. Off in the distance a bird sings, most likely to let his pair bond and friends know I am present. I notice ten yards in front of me a fallen tree, still somewhat attached by little shards of bark near its foot. The lightly colored brown tree, from what I can make of it, has completely fallen off and lies lifelessly by its side with loose leaves scattered among the surrounding snow. I crawl through the thick snow to get a closer inspection. The small tree, by the looks of it, the snowfall came too early in the year, and the small tree could not hold up the weight. Small footprints lay on top, pressed lightly into the snow that seemed to comfort the fallen tree. The sun’s rays were trying its hardest to melt the snow off this tree, to allow it to have life again. I notice evidence that small yellow pine worms feasted on the bark where the tree...
