T: Hi, Rita. Merry Christmas!

R: Merry Christmas, Trista. Would you go to the Christmas

Party at school this year? T: Of course, it’s really exciting this year. Look this!

R: What a cute mickey-mouse environment-friendly cup.

T: This was my gift that I got from gift-exchange activity. What did you get?

R: I received a hat. What is the most that you have spent on your Christmas gift?

T: The most I’ve ever spent on my Christmas gift is NT$ 300. How about you?

R: I spent NT$350. I almost use up my savings on my friends Christmas presents this year.

T: Me too. Money is not grow on tree. So we need to work ourselves.

R: That’s right. So you have a part-time job?

T: Yes, I work on a restaurant, that’s why it really touched my heart when I heard this sentence.

R: No wonder, then have you ever heard another proverb says“Save your pennies for a rainy day”?

T: Sure. It means we are supposed to make preparation in advanced, isn’t it?

R: Yes it is, but we cannot put too much emphasis on money than neglect the important things, like friends and family.

T: After all, you cannot take it when you go. We both should put more attention on other important things then money.

R: Yes, I think that’s generally true. Money is not the most important thing of all. We can’t wait until lose other precious things.

T: It is really a enlightening talk. See you next time.R:See you.------------------------------------------------------------

Are you going to the school's Christmas Party this year? It's going to be really exciting this year. Look at this!

environmentally-friendly This is the present I got from my secret Santa. I got a hat. (對話中用got比較自然)

the most you've spent on one Christmas present The most I've ever spent is NT$ 300. NT$ 350 for me. I am broke from buying all the Christmas presents! Money does not grow on trees. I need to get a job now just to pay for them.

    That’s right.

    I hear ya.

Yes, I work on a restaurant, that’s why it really touched my heart when I heard this sentence. 上文並沒有說明 "this sentence" 是什麼. 不過如果指的是 Money doesn't grow on trees, 應該說明: Yes, I work in a restaurant, and it is hard! Now I really understand why my parents always said to me "Money does'nt gorw on trees."

I bet! You know what other proverb would apply in our current situation? "Save your pennies for a rainy day"!

It means ... doesn't it? Yes, it does. Regardless, what is really important at this time of the year is family and friends, not material things and money, and so we really shouldn't worry ourselves too much with buying expensive presents. That's a good point. After all, you cannot take money with you when you go. We should both pay more attention to other important things in life. You are absolutely right! Money is not the most important thing in life. We need to spend more time with friends and family before we lost them!

This is a really enlightening talk. I will go home to my family now! See you next time!
