talk about和talk的差別

Yahoo

The young people were talking philosophy in Clay's study.

    She is always talking.

She sometimes talks to herself.

What are you talking about?

He never talks about others behind their backs.

If you talk on or about something, you make an informal speech telling people what you know or think about it.

Talk of the Devil, and he is sure to appear.

He talks French like a Frenchman.

He talked his father into buying a new car.

    He talked himself hoarse.

We talked politics for a long time.(討論...之事)

    to talk nonsense=胡說八道

The young people were talking philosophy in Clay's study.

=The young people were talking about philosophy in Clay's study.

If you talk something such as politics or sport, you discuss it

to talk business/politics, etc. = to discuss a particular subject

Whenever they're together, they talk politics.

The difference between "talk" and "talk about" is "talk about" is more specific than "talk". For example:

    Let us talk.

Let us talk about this trip.

"Let us talk" means "there is NOTHING specific to talk about"

However, "let us talk about this trip" means "we talk specifically about this trip".

in your questioned sentence: "... talk philosophy...", philosophy has a very wide range of knowledge. However, in your questioned sentence, it DID say " ... in Clay's study".

It becomes very specific, so it is better to use

The young people were talking about philosophy in Clay's study.
