請問be used to 和不定詞一起用的問題.

例句1:

the junk food is a word often used to refer to food which make people fat.

問題一:

上面的be used to 是被動式,被用於~

那為何還需要接不定詞to refer呢?

因為不定詞,它不是"預訂做"以及"動作還未做"的意思嗎?

Junk food之前已經常常被使用於形容垃圾食物了,再接不定詞不是很怪嗎?

但是查了一下新英文法,如果to refer是副詞用法的話,那就表是目的.結果?

問題二:

若改接referred呢?連續接兩個過去分詞,這樣語意適合嗎?

因為referred具有被動的意思,因為 junk food 是被形容的+被接受動作的.

"被歸因於~"

形成這個句子:

the junk food is a word often used referred to food which make people fat.

問題三:

像這種片語be used to,其後再接不定詞,如何確定該不定詞是做名詞.形容詞.副詞用??

『但動作是refer, 其時間順序在used之後"動作還未做"』

這句話我看不太懂,為什麼時間順序排在used之後,是動作還未做?

The junk food is a word often used to refer to food which makes people fat.

    問題一:

    上面的be used to 是被動式,被用於~

    那為何還需要接不定詞to refer呢?

    因為不定詞,它不是"預訂做"以及"動作還未做"的意思嗎?

    Junk food之前已經常常被使用於形容垃圾食物了,再接不定詞不是很怪嗎?

    但是查了一下新英文法,如果to refer是副詞用法的話,那就表是目的.結果?

    be used to 這個to是介系詞to還是不定詞的to要由語意邏輯來判定.

    本句的to在語意上表目的(被用來), 所以是不定詞的to, 要接V原式.

junk food本身雖是早有定義的辭彙, 但動作是refer, 其時間順序在used之後"動作還未做", 所以用to VR完全正確.

    問題二:

    若改接referred呢?連續接兩個過去分詞,這樣語意適合嗎?

    因為referred具有被動的意思,因為 junk food 是被形容的+被接受動作的.

    "被歸因於~"

    形成這個句子:

The junk food is a word often used referred to food which makes people fat. (X)

    不可. 原因已如上述.

    本句並非「原因結果」語意, 下面這一句才是「歸因於」寫法:

The food's being referred to as junk food is resulted from the fact that it

    makes people fat.

    問題三:

    像這種片語be used to,其後再接不定詞,如何確定該不定詞是做名詞.形容詞.副詞用?? 由「語意邏輯+句子結構」來判定, 可萬無一失.

    >『但動作是refer, 其時間順序在used之後"動作還未做"』

    >這句話我看不太懂,為什麼時間順序排在used之後,是動作還未做?

be used to refer to 的語意邏輯是: 被使用以便稱呼xxx

    很明顯的,「以便」交代了順序, 使用在先, 稱呼在後.

    分詞前面不必然為名詞, 例如:

The travel plan is abandoned considering the bad weather development. (連續二個分詞)

She didn't know what direction should be followed being confused with the various sign boards. (連續三個分詞)

The junk food is a word often used to refer to foods which make people fat.

    問題一:

    上面的be used to 是被動式,被用於~

    那為何還需要接不定詞to refer呢?

    因為不定詞,它不是"預訂做"以及"動作還未做"的意思嗎?

    Junk food之前已經常常被使用於形容垃圾食物了,再接不定詞不是很怪嗎?

    但是查了一下新英文法,如果to refer是副詞用法的話,那就表是目的.結果?

The junk food is a word是主要子句。

    often used是過去分詞(表示被動),當先行詞word的修飾語,屬形容詞性質。

    to refer to foods是不定詞片語,當used的修飾語,屬副詞性質,表目的。在時序上比過去分詞used較晚,所以符合這裡的邏輯與不定詞的特性。

    which make people fat是形容詞子句,當foods的限定性修飾語。

    問題二:

    若改接referred呢?連續接兩個過去分詞,這樣語意適合嗎?

    因為referred具有被動的意思,因為 junk food 是被形容的+被接受動作的.

    "被歸因於~"

    形成這個句子:

The junk food is a word often used referred to food which make people fat.

應改成The junk food is a word often referring to foods which make people fat.

    不能連續用兩個過去分詞,因為彼此無法形成結構關係。而且refer邏輯上的主詞是word,是事物,而不是人物,應用表示主動的現在分詞來當修飾語,修飾word。

She referred to the subject several times during her speech.(主詞是人物)

The term "groupware" refers to software designed to be used by serval computer users at once.(主詞是事物)

These notes refer to the case of a teenage murderer.

    refer to是當成phrasal verb用,以上例句都是主動的關係。

    問題三:

    像這種片語be used to,其後再接不定詞,如何確定該不定詞是做名詞.形容詞.副詞用??

Looking through the newspapers every day, we are used to reading terrifying reports about crimes.

I'm tired. I'm not used to these late nights.

    這裡的used to是接名詞性質的字當受詞,意思是be used to (doing) something,used to屬形容詞性質。

People often use dirty words to describe their bad feelings.

Dirty words are often used to describe bad feelings.

    這裡的use是主要動詞,寫成are used是被動態。

    to describe bad feelings是不定詞片語,當述部的修飾語,屬不定詞片語。

    所以閱讀時,分析be used to,要從上下文的結構來看use在句子裡的用法,不是由use來決定後面該接什麼。寫作時,則看你要把use當什麼用,因為used to除了當adjetive外,還可以當modal verb來用。如I don't play glf now, but I used to.

    我說的那是英檢的模擬選擇考題,不是自由造句喔。

    題目:

The junk food is a word often used____ to food which make people fat.

    (A)referring (B)refer (C)to refer (D)referred

    2012-06-18 09:13:56 補充:

    我想問的是『……used referred……』是「被使用~」以及「被歸因於~」。如何判斷它是當動詞而不是當分詞?

    2012-06-18 09:18:01 補充:

    難道是因為分詞是用來修是名詞的,故前面沒有名詞就難以形成分詞?而會變成動詞?

you have used too much grammar in understanding English.

    This sentence has omitted word:

The junk is a word (that is) often used to referred to food which make people fat.

    2012-06-18 08:44:55 補充:

"used" and " referred" are the verbs for the "that-clause", since you cannot have TWO verbs in one sentence, so it uses "used to refer to" to avoid two verbs.

    2012-06-18 08:45:18 補充:

    typo!

used to referred to ==> used to refer to

    2012-06-18 08:46:47 補充:

If you like you can write it as:

The junk food us a word (that is) often used and referred to food which make people fat.
