    1.

Yes there are a lot of events that don't relate to history. Global warming - this event is still happening. Income tax to increase - this event hasn't even happened yet. Hangseng index at 80000 - stock is still and continuously increasing.

    2. I think the event, Handover of Hong Kong, July 1, 1997, is a historical event because it happened 10 years ago and marked a significant milestone in the history of the relationship between the Chinese and England.

    3. No, I do not agree news is one of the important ways in studying history. First of all, news is simply a report of the current events that are happening and/or happened within a specific region or part of the globe; hence, these reports do fit under the definition of history, a discovery, collection, organization, and presentation of information about past events. Second of all, it is correct that some news reports will touch on some topics on history; however, in order to fully understand a specific historical event, one needs to stand on an objective point of view to see what is going on and not an opinion-based overview. Thus, I believe it is incorrect to say that news is one of the important ways in studying history; news is merely a report on the current event with a biased overview.

I think the event, Handover of Hong Kong, July 1, 1997, is a historical event because it happened 10 years ago and marked a significant milestone in the history of the relationship between China and England.
