    樓上大大說得很好, 可惜第5題答錯了.

1.Please indicate___item you'd like by checking the box beside the name

    A.it B.that C.where D which

    求各個選項解答...以及by checking意思

空格後面有個item you'd like, 應是xxx item (which) you like, SVO俱全, 那麼空格應是形容詞或冠詞性質, 可填what, which, the等, 選項中只有D符合.

    by: 藉著; 以...方式

    checking: 打勾; 作記號

    box: 框格"囗"

    by checking the box: 在框格中打勾.

    請以勾選名稱旁的框格的方式標示出哪一個項目你所喜歡.

2.Fill out this application and give it to the receptionist___you're done

    A.that B.what C.when D.who

    我刪去了D求各個選項解

    請填寫申請表, 當填好後把它交給接待員.

    句中的it = the application

give it to the receptionist是完整句子不缺主詞受詞, 那麼後面的子句一定是副詞性質, 選項C.when為唯一的副詞, when you're done當你完成時(表時間).

3.I often wonder__authors conceive their ideas for fantastic series.

    A.which B.what C.how D.that

    我選C答案是D求解...

    標準答案錯誤, 正解是C.how

    關代與關副的用法差別是: 關代必須擔任子句中的主詞或受詞, 而關副不擔任而只作為修飾; 疑問詞(疑代或疑副)也是這樣來判定.

    疑問副詞有where/when/why/how.

    空格後面的子句主詞受詞俱全, 光是這一點就知道空格絕非疑代, 排除了ABD, 而C為疑問副詞正解.

    我常常奇怪作者們是怎麼把他們的點子構想成一集集搞笑系列的.

4.Yur might wonder why they are wearing ___appear to be skirt.

    A.what B.if C.how D.which

    刪去了B跟D,A.D求解

why the are wearing xxx缺受詞; xxx appear to be skirt 缺主詞.

    既要當受詞, 又要身兼子句主詞, 也就是要一個「先行詞兼關代」, 當然非what莫屬囉!

    你也許會奇怪為什麼他們穿著看起來像是裙子的東西.

5.Danny left it open ___he would be at dinner party.

    A.what B.whether C.whatever D.whenever

    各個選項求解...

    open意思是不作定案, 空格可以是: 是否whether, 何時when, 怎麼去how等.

    選項中只有B.whether符合.

    Glad to hear that, DSG.

I was wondering if I might have offended you.

5.Danny left it open whether he would be at dinner party.

it = whether he would be at dinner party

    Danny未告知這件事: 他到底來不來

To explain which choice is right, I like to use the logic, instead of grammar rules. Hopefully, this will be easier for you to learn.

    1. D which

In this question, there are TWO clues for you to make the right choice:

    (1)item, (2)check.

These two clues indicate that it is about making a choice. Among all the provided choices, only D.which has the "choice" meaning in it.

In "by checking", where "by" is just a preposition, "checking" is in V-ing due to "by". It means: to place (or use) a "check mark" (such as X, O, or ✓, ✔).

    2. C.when

In this question, another two clues: (1)application, (2)done. It tells you When you are done with filling out the application, you give it to receptionist. The other choices don't fit the meaning of the sentence.

    3. C.how

    我選C答案是D求解...

Your choice is perfectly correct. This question is talking about how an idea is conceived.

    4. A.what

    刪去了B跟D,A.D求解

This question doesn't ask for a choice, but indicates what you have seen.

    5. D.whenever

    各個選項求解...

This question tries to tell people a situation when he was at a party. On top of that, it is a situation that happens all the time. Therefore, whenever is the only suitable choice.

When you have used English long enough, you will be able to choice the right word without any thinking. My way of explanation is to let you know how I FEEL with the English statement and make the right choice. To me, this is a much easier way to learn English. After all, I simply apply the logic to make choice, not a grammar rule. When you use grammar rules to solve the problem, even though you get the idea how to apply the rule to above questions. However, when the question changes, you MIGHT NOT be able to make the right choice, unless you really know the rules by heart.

For example: If I change #5 question as:

Danny left it open when he was at dinner party.

    or

Danny left it open while being at dinner party.

As you can just a tiny little change, you will use different word.

    TYPO:

As you can just ... ==> As you can see just ...

Master 羅莉 and Louis! I fully agree with you about #5. Yes, I did MISREAD the sentence. I will be more careful to read the sentence correctly. Thank you for the correction !!

Not at all, in fact, I have to thank you for pointing out my mistake and helping me to correct the mistake for poster. Thanks again !!
