An Empirical Research on Blended Learning in Teaching Japanese:

With Japanese beginners in Nanzi Senior High School

Since 2005 “Second 5-Year Program to Promote Second Foreign Language Education” is promoted By Ministry of Education, the number of schools offering Japanese, French, German and Spanish courses and their numbers of classes and students have been increasing. Among the second foreign language courses offered, Japanese is the language most offered in the most of Senior High School and comprehensive high school.

However, according to curriculum planning, Japanese lesson has only two credits in the 126 elective courses. And most of school opens only one academic year. How to cause students' motivation for learning in a short period of time is mainly purpose of this research.

If you want to make learning interesting, teaching material is good or bad that is a key point. Recently, according to the prevalence of the internet and the progress of high-technology, blended teaching has been proven the most effective and cost-effective in teaching at school. Nowadays in Taiwan, to development of digital learning materials for blended teaching is not little, but most of they are for the Chinese digital materials or English digital materials.

 In this research, the author developed an Japanese Internet materials with blended teaching to teach. First step is to examine about the blended teaching theories and researches. Second step is designing the internet materials with “五十音(gojyuuon)、lesson 1 and lesson 2of 日本語GoGoGo Ⅰ(Nihongo GoGoGo I) ”. And then, gives instruction targeting for the beginners, 36 students, who took a Japanese course in Kaohsiung Municipal Nanzi Senior High School.

According to the results, most of students have the positive confirmation of the blended teaching, especially is the animation can develop learners’ interest.
