1. Regardless of your reason(s) (or excuses) to abandon your residency, you need to file a I-407 as instructed and return all government properties back to AIT:
2. IRS has 3 years to examine or audit you (which is consistent with its record retention requirement). Even you abandon your residency, you will still be subject to IRS's jurisdiction for a while in exchange.
3. AIT has no say on all tax issues.
