The internet has affected education by making all knowledge easily accessible. Almost any information one needs can be found on the internet. The success and popularity of Wikipedia - the free online encyclopedia – is evidence of how often people use the internet to gain information. This easy access to information has many obvious advantages. Information on even obscure topics can be found very quickly. Students and scholars no longer need to spend hours or even days or weeks manually searching through books and research journals. It is also possible to find more up-to-date information than one might find in library books. Furthermore, the abundance of information on the internet can expose students to ideas they might never have thought of otherwise, and thus help them to discover and develop their passions.
At first it might seem that the internet has only had a positive effect on education, but there are disadvantages as well. With so much information available, it is easier than ever for students – and even scholars – to illegally steal the ideas of others without getting caught. There are even websites devoted to selling academic papers to students. Also, it is relatively easy to publish information on the internet, and the information on the internet usually does not receive the same careful editing and review that goes into books and academic journals, so it is possible to find incorrect information.
Clearly the internet can be a great help to education in many ways, but one must also be careful to avoid its disadvantages.參考資料： 我是美國人
