1.What is the most common way people communicate in business? Email, telephone, face to face.

    Answer: Email.

    Reference:

Back in 1999, when internet and email were still not very popular in Taiwan, my Singaporean colleagues asked me to email them instead of calling them.

    2. When having an issue with someone in Singapore, what is the best way to approach them?

Answer: Praise them first before raising the issue.

Reason: Singaporeans are polite, efficient but very proud. So, when you are having an issue with a Singaporean, the best way to approach him or her is to start the conversation in a polite way. And what can be a better appetizer than a sincere praise?

    3. How do you treat people that are lower down than you in the company business chain?

    Answer:

    (1) Treat them as ELDER brothers and sisters during face-to-face interactions. Try to be as polite as possible. Remember to say “Thank you” when they have done something for you.

    (2) Treat them as regular business partners (instead of co-workers or friends) in email communications.

    (3) Try to convey most important business issues in writing (e.g. email, memo).

    4. How do you treat people that are higher up than you in the company business chain?

    Answer:

(1)Treat them as brothers and sisters.

(2)Call them by their first names when they ask you to do so.

(3)Try to communicate with them in person instead of via email.

(4)Above all, do whatever they ask you to do in an efficient way.

    5. What are the major culture rules in Singapore when it comes to business?

    Answer:

(1)Education is the most important criterion when it comes to social status. Generally speaking, you need at least a college degree to be respected in a business environment.

    (2)Money is another important criterion.

(3)IMMO, Singaporeans are quite snobbish – but in a subtle and sophisticated way. It takes time to sense that.

    6. What is the most important personally trait that employees notice?
