    once (ad)曾經

    remark (v) 說 (say)

    he once remarked他曾經說過

"A few" years ago (I'm still a chick), my high school teacher pointed it out. She said "to" could be crossed out, 'cause the grammar book said so. It's better to add "to" to the sentence for sure.

Similarly, "if rules" in grammar book reads: you can replace "were" with "was" as in "if I was a anthropologist, I would..." (BUT that's only acceptable in spoken language)

    這句的翻譯:

    他曾經說過: 做為一位藝術家最勇敢的事是鼓舞其它人能夠有創意

    once: 在此指曾經

    remark: 說、評論

the most valiant thing you can do as an artist is to inspire someone else to be creative ==> is 和 inspire中間加個to,才對喔

    once remark = 曾經說過

The sentence you have has some problems. It is better to write as:

"the most valiant thing you can do as an artist is TO inspire someone else to be creative" he once remarked
