於簡單的無介面活性劑之水溶液下,以加熱法、紫外光低溫法和紫外光加熱法進行異丙基丙烯醯胺與甲基丙烯酸縮水甘油酯的聚合反應,以製備聚-(氮-異丙基丙烯醯胺-共-甲基丙烯酸縮水甘油酯,P(NIPAAm-co-GMA);PNG) 奈米水膠,合成的奈米水膠的回收率皆可達7成以上。由傅立葉轉換紅外線光譜 (FT-IR) 判別此共聚物的化學組成,經由紫外/可見光光譜儀在 500 nm 之穿透率的改變,得知此奈米水膠的最低臨界溫度 (LCST) 約 30℃。利用掃描式電子顯微鏡 (SEM) 測定其皆為球型,具單分散性,平均粒徑分別為292.00 nm、173.94 nm和198.15nm,UV聚合法之粒徑較以加熱法製備者小。此外,由於製備所需的時間較短、操作溫度較低,因此可保留較多的環氧團基,但粒徑不一,分布較廣。以加熱法聚合成的奈米水膠為核心,再以加熱法加熱6h或UV照射法照射10至20 min,於核心外部加上異丙基丙烯醯胺單體製備核殼。此具核-殼結構的奈米水膠之最低臨界溫度約 34℃,更接近人體溫度 37℃,加熱法粒徑增加150 nm,而UV照射法則增加20~60 nm。另外,同樣將加熱法聚合成的奈米水膠為核心,以異丙基丙烯醯胺單體和衣康酸製備外殼層,此含衣康酸殼層結構的奈米水膠之最低臨界溫度約 33℃,而以加熱法製備之粒徑增加150 nm,UV照射法則增加20~60 nm。因衣康酸帶負電的關係,使殼層表面帶負電,此特徵可以用來與幾丁聚醣進行離子鍵結,包覆於其外層。
