Maths question1.A travel agency offers an air-ticket and hotel package as follows:

Marked price Discount per cent

Air-ticket \$2800 30%

Hotel \$1050 per night for 4 nights 20%

Find the discount per cent of the whole package.

Whole Package price before discount:\$2800+\$1050*4=\$7000

Discount for whole package:\$2800*30%+\$4200*20%=\$840+\$840=\$1680

Discount per cent of the whole package

=(Discount for whole package/Whole Package price before discount)*100%=(1680/7000)*100%=24%2.The marked price of a TV set is \$6000.It is now sold at a discount of 10%.If a customer pays by a certain credit card,an extra discount of 10% of the selling price will be offered.Compared with the marked price, how much does Paul save if he pays by the preferred credit card?

Discount at 10%= \$6000*10%=\$600

Selling price at 10 % discount=Marked price - Discount=\$6000-\$600

=\$5400

Extra preferred credit card discount=Selling price at 10 % discount*10%=\$5400*10%

=\$540

Money Paul saves if he pays by the preferred credit card=Discount at 10%+ Extra preferred credit card discount=\$600+\$540

=\$1140

3.In a bookshop's annual sale, all the books are sold at 20% off.If a customer spends more than \$200,an extra discount of 5% on the selling price will be offered.(a)Samuel buys a book for\$68,what is the marked price of the book?

Price after 20% discount=80% of marked price=\$68

Marked price=\$68/80%=\$85

(b)If Kathy wants to buy two books marked \$200 and \$100 respectively, how much should she pay?Total marked price of books Kathy wants to buy=\$200+\$100=\$300

At 20% off, price=\$300*(1-20%)=\$240, which is greater than\$200

At extra discount of 5%, final discounted price=Money Kathy should pay

=\$240*(1-5%)

=\$228
