The Court of Appeal allowed the Crown's appeal and restored Morin's conviction

The District Court allowed Morin's appeal and stayed her conviction.

    大英系統法律用語, 「allow 某某的 appeal」 是指某某人的上訴成功。 allow 是 acknowledge 的意思。

    the Crown 是 「檢方」。

    stay = stop,是 「阻止」 或翻案的意思。

之後, the Crown (即檢方) 提出上訴,在更高審 the Court of Appeal 獲得成功,維持原來有罪的判決。

Poor Morin, her conviction was stayed and then restored again by the higher court. Can your highness, the Princess do something to yank her off the hook?

    > The District Court allowed Morin's appeal and stayed her conviction.

Nope, nope, nope! This is wrong.

"Stayed her conviction" = stopped her conviction = she is no longer convicted...

Her = whoever appealed = Morin

    The whole story is:

Morin was convicted by the local court. She appealed and the district "stayed" her conviction. But later (fed) appeal court "restored" the conviction and Morin becomes convicted again.

The big cat is right on the story.

Also, in most (current and former) Commonwealth nations, the prosecution is typically called "the Crown".

To pardon her, she needs to donate $20 to "Poor Princess Party fund"

Based upon the use "appeal court" and "district court," it shall belong to US federal court system.

"district court" is lowest, "appeal court" is in the middle, then the supreme court.

Under the federal court, there are state court system and metro court. The difference for the two sentences is just the decision for different level of court for the federal court system.

Morin needs to hire a better lawyer :-) … Look like Crown is a better prosecutor!

I am glad that master LionEnglish pointed out the order of these two sentences. Otherwise, how can district court overturn the Appeal court's decision.
