Better Isn't Happening at Sears
> Translation or grammatical issue?
Whatever you care to elaborate. I have no issue at all - I'm very promiscuous.
> Yes, Sears is a sunset business for sure now.
Dr. Choi, how can "retailing" be a sunset business? Please elaborate!
Master priest, why "Best Buy" and "Sears" are dire but Petsmart, Home Depot, Lowes are doing well?
> You'll have to take a course at Wharton to get to the bottom of it.
How do you know? Maybe I am!
I like what Dr. Choi said. If there is no objection, I like to select his answer.

To me, there is an intentionally suppressed word future.
Better ( future ) is not happening at Sears.
or put it more straight forward would be
Sears does not seem to have a better (brighter) future.
Yes, Sears is a sunset business for sure now.

Retailing is not a sunset business.
The way Sears runs retailing is a sunset business.
The way Amazon runs retailing is a sunrise business.

Melon took it wrong - it was K-mart who acquired Sears, not the other way around. Lampert brought Kmrt into private, then IPO and its stocks once reached $200. Then it bought S and took its name.

K's impacts on US financial market are bigger than meeting the eyes.
Many big brand names, such as CarMax, Circuit City, Builder SQ, Sports Authority were all spun from K. Very visionary but failed to bring US jobs to CN to survive.

Not only so, both "have lunch" and "have breakfast" should also be banned as well. "do lunch" should be the only one acceptable.

1.本句better當名詞用，是好的事或人，翻譯為好的事未在Sears連鎖事業發生 另形容詞置句首用法供参考，So kind is he, who always supports the food to the poor.

I suppose the author was lamenting the closure of the Chicago store for a second time in less than 30 years -- a sign of the time for this ailing retail giant of 121 years. In other words, it is not getting better at Sears.
This Chicago store was Sears' flagship store when it was reopened in 2001.
Actually, the heading could be more sarcastically applied to a store in similarly dire situation, the Best Buy. Both companies tried to turn around their business, both had disappointing 4Q results, and both stocks tanked the next day; but "better" injects a stronger sarcasm into "Best Buy".

why "Best Buy" and "Sears" are dire but Petsmart, Home Depot, Lowes are doing well?
You'll have to take a course at Wharton to get to the bottom of it. In short, you need to sell products people want, and like them more than others.

I simply don't understand why Sears acquired K-mart. Before Wal-mart rises up, K-mart has more stores than Wal-mart. Now, K-mart is a struggling business. Even though it has close down so many stores. Its business still has NO improvement.
2014-01-23 07:11:54 補充：
Yet, Sears acquired it. My guts feeling is Sears might have to saber the tie with K-mart and let it go out of business. This is one of the mysteries in business that puzzles me a lot.
2014-01-23 07:15:26 補充：
In my opinion, Sears' appliances and tool business are still compatible. However, with HomeDepot and Lowe's competition, I wonder how long it can still stay in competition.

2014-01-23 23:14:45 補充：
This is the kind of English that I have puzzled with. In Chinese philosophy, to eat it is to have it. This is why Chinese said, "A cooked duck flies away." If a cooked duck can fly away, then don't you think to eat it is better than to have it.
2014-01-23 23:15:52 補充：
After all, to eat it, you can have both "eat it" and "have it". However, to have it without eating it, it might "walk" away.
2014-01-23 23:35:33 補充：
Don't take me wrong, I do know the meaning of that sentence. It is similar to Chinese said about "魚和熊掌". I just puzzle with using "eat" and "have".
