新聞 "Freedom, Fried" 相關翻譯

下面是一則國外新聞,內容是在說台灣媒體缺乏國際觀、視野狹隘等等。

http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2014/02/20/f...

我想要請問在副標的部分

Why Taiwanese are getting fed up with the island's salacious, "in-your-face" media

    Freedom, Fried

    自由,累了

Why Taiwanese are getting fed up with the island's salacious, "in-your-face" media

    為何台灣人對島上聲色八卦與當面挑釁的媒體漸感厭煩

    副標通常是更詳細闡釋主標,所以應有文字相關。

    標題 fried 是俚語意思之一,指精神或肉體感覺很累。見 2005 出版 《Cassell's Dictionary of Slang》,第 544 頁:

fried (also fried out) very tired, worn-out

    用法如部落格中這位護士:

Today the calls started at 7. I have a weekend supervisor who is useless. She's forever calling asking something or other, yet when something major happens they don't call. I am fried beyond belief.

    ----------------- http://allnurses.com/ltc-directors-nursing/tired-o...

    My understanding –

“Fried” can also be interpreted as “burned-out due to excessive indulgence, turning substance to fat”.

    所以 Freedom, Fried 可以這麼解釋:

    因為自由權的濫用而使它變得一文不值

    希望有幫助

    Panda - Over and out!

That's ok Cookie my good man,

My answer is too clunky and far from refined, as my Chinese stays at sixth grade level. Being proficient in both Chinese and English, it is up to you to revamp it into something more beautiful and succinct.

In my opinion, "fried" has the meaning of "hype" (炒作). The author didn't want to use a more formal word "hype" for "炒作" is to let people have a direct idea what he is talking about.

    2014-02-26 02:50:15 補充:

I read through the entire article, it talked about "Yellow Duck" and other highly publicized news in Taiwan, so based upon the content of this article. I think, "fried" means "炒作".

    2014-02-26 10:19:10 補充:

    Cookie!

I think your saying about "熱過頭,燒壞了" is another good idea, so is "exhausted". Like you have said "瞎子摸象".

    2014-02-26 10:20:35 補充:

I thought I can get an idea what "fried" means by reading the entire article, but it is still "瞎子摸象". After all, there is NO definite expression that refers to "fried". However, it does have a lot about "freedom".

    in-your-face 字義的解釋 : 不假顏色,一副盛氣凌人的姿態,直"衝"著臉前而來

    但如果要套用在句子中,下面這描述就挺傳神的,

    "不問青紅皂白,劈頭劈臉灑將過來"

    也就是不問是非黑白,管你是也不是,強加在你身上

    "劈面" 就是迎面的意思,正對頭臉而來

    "Freedom, Fried" (媒體自由,香酥油炸)

Freedom of the press, anything can be fried; it's fast and tasty, cheap to get and easy to swallow. Yet, whoever has consumed it would get fat and dumb.

    我的猜想,文章標題是作者自己的構思。該文作者曾在台服務過,對台灣夜市和電視上的美食,應有相當印象,而其中油炸是不可或缺的烹調方式。

    2014-02-26 09:37:09 補充:

Freedom, Fried 除了是 alliterate 外,fried 這字更是意象豐富。

fried 這字另有 "秀逗" (worn out, exhausted) 的意思,My brain was totally fried.

When in doubt, fried it!

    我所不能掌握的是 "Freedom, Fried" 是否有其他參考出處。有待其他大師提供見解。

    2014-02-28 00:35:00 補充:

I agree with Panda that "burned-out" makes more sense here.

I just couldn't resist the idea that Taiwan's media outlets have been deep-frying every tidbit into sizzling, crunchy junk to appeal to general public's appetites. However plausible it may be, it's not idiomatic.

    Flash fried

The headline puns were inevitable. "Gone in a Flash" was a particular favourite.

(The Economist, Nov 10th 2011) 這裡的 Flash 指 Adobe 軟體

    共和黨語彙理也出現 Freedom-Fried Frenchmen

而 Dictionary of Republicanisms 中 freedom-fried 意思是 to invade Iraq

    2014-03-01 02:42:37 補充:

    2.) fried 在slang中常用來指物品 broken, malfunctioning

The Economist Feb 9th 2006 同名標題 Freedom fried,用來描述歐盟四大自由進出的滯礙難行(goods, labour, capital and services)

    3.) 台灣的媒體自由,則是過度無節制造成的 burned-out

    至於標題如何翻譯,就有勞其他高手高抬貴手

    2014-03-05 01:36:34 補充:

    真是感謝Lion 大精闢的解說,讓這問題不至無疾而終。

    另一個重點,先前我一直避免談論,這個逗點讓 fried 成了分詞型態的型容詞,比較下列兩例

    1.) Freedom Fried

    2.) Freedom, (which is) Fried

    這個逗點讓例句2的延伸語意更為深遠,要涵蓋面足夠的將可能的變化型態儘可能的考慮在內,讓我感到心有餘而力不足,只好望之怯步。

    2014-03-06 01:40:27 補充:

    "媒體自由,炒夠了沒"

    讚!讚!讚!讚!讚!

    台灣的媒體自甘墮落,只能用八個字形容,"怪力亂神,媚俗矯情"

    卻又怪閱聽大眾不捧場。才是問題所在。
