question in question(grammar)

We can put a yes/no question asking what people think (1) or say (2) after the wh-word (what, who) inside a wh-question.

1. Do you think something is wrong?---> Who do you think is wrong?

2.Did he say someone was waiting outside?--> Who did he say was waiting

ouside?

Who do you think is wrong?

do you thing 插入了Who is wrong,但為何合起來看時就很彆扭,

    1. Do you think (that) something is wrong?

do you think xxx是主要結構

Who do you think is wrong?

Who is wrong?

2.Did he say (that) someone was waiting outside?

do you think xxx是主要結構。

Who did he say was waiting outside?

Who was waiting outside?

Who did he say Paul had killed?

    Who Paul had killed?

A: Who did he say Paul had killed?

B: He said Paul had killed a homeless old man.

A: Did he say who Paul had killed? 那麼B勢必要用Yes or No回答, 不合理.

A: Did he know who Paul had killed?

B: Yes, he did. / No, he didn't.

A: Who did he know Paul had killed?
