"I decided to help a group 'hang door knockers against' animal testing." What does the phrase in '...' mean?

First, 'door knockers' here is very informal (and not very accurate). Those would be some kind of printed paper that has a message against, or protesting, the testing of animals (or the testing of something -- like a drug -- when used on animals for experimental purposes). So these things are not really door knockers at all, but a paper message that is meant to fit OVER a door knocker, so that you can just walk to somebody's front porch, and hang the animal-testing-protest message ON the front door -- where it will be noticed by whoever lives there, the next time they enter the house or apartment, etc.參考資料： native AmE
