關於Speech Act 的 request 報告
我想知道在speech act 裡面的request有什麼種類嗎?
因為我在做speech act request 報告,老師卻回告訴我 you haven't thought about a speech act yet. 我並不是很確定這個報告是要寫什麼, 我只知道要"you will need about 20+ speech acts to compare (so 20 requests for example). Your job is to look for commonalities among them and report on it. Maybe you would like to look at requests by men and requests by females in romantic comedies (in which case you will need 20 males requests and 20 female requests). You will need several movies, and just start collecting examples. Make sure you use either the pragmalinguistic/sociopragmatic analysis, or the sequential analysis."

First of all,
you need to understand what it meant by "Speech Act" ... read the one that is written for ESL teachers...

And then get to know those requests by reading

Your professor was telling you ( in plain English )
1. create a scenerio
2. create 20 short dialogues based on one common scenerio
3. compare different responses from different groups of people, like men and women and how they use the words and expressions. And then you make a comparison with the words they use.
Different people from different age group, sex, education background, career...etc will describe one thing in many different ways ( the act of speech ), Their responses to scenerios are called requests. So you compare their speech act based on those linguistic principles.
Therefore, speech acts are the act of speech and requests are the way people express their opinions in English by using different style of speech. Different request involves with different speech act. Read those two PDF file I left at comment. And let me know if you have any questions.
The first pdf file gives you an idea of speech acts and requests.
The 2nd pdf file gives you an idea how to write a report that your professor is requesting.
