in tonal languages such as chinese, meaning is conveyed not only by

the sound of a word but also by its pitch,

    在例如中文這樣的音調性語言來說,語意不僅是靠文字的發聲來表達,而且要藉助其四聲變化。

    是收到.

    被承認是recognized/admitted/acknowledged

    > meaning is conveyed not only by the sound of a word but also by its pitch,

Isn't this true for all natural languages, humans' and otherwise.

This can be easily observed in the "voices" of animals. Pitches are quite common in animal sounds.
