英文over的用法解釋

The government’s budget deficit is the excess of government purchases of goods and services over its net taxes.

Increasing Rate of GDP over the Previous Year (%)

這兩個裡面的over意思一樣嗎?我想翻成"相比於",可是好像太籠統,查英英字典解釋,感覺意思好像是more than?所以這兩個over都可以用more than替換嗎?

    1. The government’s budget deficit is the excess of government purchases of goods and services over its net taxes.

    A is the excess of B over C

    A = deficit

    B = purchases

    C = taxes

    over在本句是表示「超過了」XXX,是與excess的連用字;XXX是被超過的對象。

    2. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the United States expanded at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 2.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014 over the previous quarter, according to final estimate. .... at a rate of 2.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2014 over the previous quarter是上句裡用來說明GDP的百分比計算的方式:以2014第四季的GDP為分子,第三季(前一季)為分母(後者做為底,所以前者在上,用over來表示其在上),所得到的結果: A over B: the fourth quarter of 2014 over the precious quarter。兩個時期的(GDP相比)。

    over在本句裡沒有超過的意思。

    通常的講法應是:GDP growth rate(用google蒐尋來查證,見到的好像都是 growth rate,未見到increasing rate)

    你所寫的"increasing rate of GDP" over the previous year,看起來用語有點奇怪,可能不符習慣?
