關於英文as的用法問題。?

1.Teachers are often reluctant to change the set traditions of schools , such as having all the desks in rows.

請問知識大大們,此句such as 的後面為什麼會接Ving-having呢?是因為as在此當介系詞所以後面接Ving嗎?謝謝。: )

2.Jack and Mary are talking after Thanksgiving dinner.

Mary: Did you gamble on the football game again this year?

Jack:It's as much a tradition as eating turkey.

再請問知識大大們,此對話中的as後面接Ving-eating也是因為as當介系詞所以後面接要Ving的原因嗎?謝謝。: )

    兩個問題都是有關Gerund Phrase 動名詞片語。

    兩個例子as 後都需接名詞,或名詞性質片語,動名詞即是其中之一。

    1.) 動名詞

Reading is my favorite activity. (gerund as a subject)

Julie's best subject is writing. (gerund as a subject complement)

Carlos really enjoys biking. (gerund as a direct object)

Maria gives singing all her attention. (gerund as an indirect object)

I got this bruise from fencing. (gerund as the object of a preposition)

    2.) 動名詞片語

Reading mystery novels is my favorite activity. (gerund phrase as a subject)

Julie's best subject is creative writing. (gerund phrase as a subject complement)

Carlos really enjoys biking through the mountains. (gerund phrase as a direct object)

I got this bruise from fencing with my instructor. (gerund phrase as the object of a preposition)

1.Teachers are often reluctant to change the set traditions of schools , such as having all the desks in rows.

such as 的意思是 "例如",例如什麼樣的 tradition,句中 [having all the desks in rows] 即是動名詞片語。

Our teacher requested us [to have all the desks in rows] after class. (依然保有動詞性質的不定詞片語)

[Having all the desks in rows] is a tradition in our school. (動名詞片語當主詞)

2.) It's as much a tradition as eating turkey.

= [Gambling on the football game] is as much a tradition as eating turkey.

as 後必須接名詞,因為必須和 [gambling on the football game] 名詞片語對等

    A is as much + N + as B (A和B必須對等)

To eat too much is as much a bad thing as to eat nothing.

He is as much a member of the orchestra as Tom.

    [補充]記不記得你曾問過這問題,為何採用goes

As far as meeting women goes , you are on your own.

    因為meeting women 是動名詞片語,指就這件事而言,這件事本身是沒有單複數之分。

    1. You cannot generalized "how <such as> is used" into "how <as> is used". <such as>, per se, is an idiom which has its specialties. <such as> typically gives more specific information about something aforementioned.

    For example,

She likes expensive gifts, such as diamonds and watches.

He likes sports, such as running and swimming.

germs can survive extreme conditions, such as hot and dry.

Yes, from these examples, you may observe that <such as> may be followed by nouns, gerunds, and adjectives.

    2. Same thing on (2) - <C is as much A as B> should not be generalized.

It means A can be applied to C in a stronger sense than A applying to B.
