a.I'll  pay by check.

b.She flew to Chicago by way of Minneapolis.

請問以上兩句為什麼不用使用冠詞the、a呢?-by a check、by the way of Minneapolis.

2.The Prince woke up Snow White by kissing her.

請問此句可以改成-by a kiss嗎?

不好意思,問題比較多,謝謝。: )

    (1a) "by check"才是對的.你一定要用"a check"的話,就要用"by writing a check".

    (1b) "by way of Twin City"才是對的."by the way of Twin City"是指"有一條路叫做雙子城的路".

    (2) "by kissing her"是有情調多了."by a kiss"是 一穩見效.難度太高了吧!

    I'll pay by check.(強調付款的方法,但未說明要給幾張支票)

    I'll pay by a check.(強調只會開出一張支票)

    a = any one

    She flew to Chicago by way of Minneapolis.(不知這是否是唯一的路線)

    She flew to Chicago by the way of Minneapolis.(可能還有別的路線可走)

    the way = that way

    The Prince woke up Snow White by kissing her.(說了方法)

    The Prince woke up Snow White by a kiss.(只親了一次)

    Ellipsis is omission from  words needed to complete the construction or meaning; Instance of this is

    (a) pay by (a) check;

    (b) by (the) way of Minneapolis,

    containing ellipsis.

    (c)The Prince woke Snow White(Lv4) up "by kissing" her.

    NB:-Ellipse--elliptic is shaped like an ellipse of regular oval.
